Walmart Intensifies E-Commerce Competition with Amazon Through Extended Sales Event
Walmart (WMT) is escalating its e-commerce rivalry with Amazon (AMZN) by launching 'Walmart Deals Week,' a six-day sales event that surpasses Amazon's Prime Day in duration. The move underscores Walmart's strategy to narrow the gap with Amazon, which reported $247.03 billion in net sales from online stores compared to Walmart's $121 billion in e-commerce revenue for fiscal 2025.
Analysts note that Walmart's hybrid model—combining online and in-store access—offers shoppers greater flexibility. The retailer's AI-powered platform aims to enhance customer experience, a battleground where Amazon has also invested heavily. 'Amazon’s probably your first choice to search for stuff, but then you price compare,' says Mizuho analyst David Bellinger, highlighting a potential vulnerability for Amazon as early Prime Day spending reportedly dipped 14%.
